Visa validity

Article 7 (Entry of Foreigners)   

(1) When a foreigner enters the Republic of Korea, he or she shall hold a valid passport and a visa issued by the Minister of Justice.
(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), any of the following foreigners may enter the Republic of Korea without a visa:
1. A person who obtains permission to reenter or who is exempted from permission of reentry, and who enters the Republic of Korea before the period of such permission or exemption expires;
2. A person who is a national of a country which has concluded the Visa Exemption Agreement with the Republic of Korea, and who is subject to exemption under the Convention;
3. A person who enters the Republic of Korea for international friendship, sightseeing or in the interests of the Republic of Korea, etc., and who has separately obtained an entry permit, as prescribed by Presidential Decree;
4. A person who departed from the Republic of Korea with a refuge travel document issued, and enters the Republic of Korea before the term of validity of such certificate expires.
(3) The Minister of Justice may temporarily suspend the application of the Visa Exemption Agreement to those who fall under paragraph (2) 2 where deemed necessary for maintaining public order or in the interests of the Republic of Korea.
(4) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), any national of a country which has no diplomatic relationship with the Republic of Korea, or which is designated by the Minister of Justice after consulting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, may enter the Republic of Korea with a foreigner entry permit issued by the head of an overseas diplomatic mission or the Commissioner of a Regional Immigration Service, as prescribed by Presidential Decree.

Accordingly, a foreigner wishing to enter South Korea must have a valid passport and visa. However, persons as nationals of a country that has concluded the Visa Exemption Agreement with the Republic of Korea and persons subject to the exemption of Convention do not need to apply for a visa.

  • Citizens of the following countries are exempted from Korea Visa for 90 days: EU citizens from European Union (except Cyprus and Portugal), Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Kuwait, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Serbia, Singapore, Suriname, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, United Arab Emirates United, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela.
  • Citizens of the following countries are exempt from the Korean Visa for 60 days: Lesotho, Portugal, and Russia.
  • Citizens of the following countries are exempt from the Korean visa for 30 days: Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Cyprus, Egypt, Fiji, Guyana, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Monaco, Montenegro, Nauru, New Caledonia, Oman, Palau, Paraguay, Qatar, Samoa, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Swaziland, Tonga, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Vatican City
