Cases of being granted temporary residence cards, temporary residence card symbols according to Vietnamese law

Foreigners who are members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses, children under 18 years of age, maids accompanied by tenure;

• DT3 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital from 03 billion VND to less than 50 billion VND;

• NN1 – Issued to people who are heads of representative offices and projects of international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam;

• NN2 – Issued to heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural and other professional organizations in Vietnam;

• DH – Issued to people entering to practice and study;

• PV1 – Issued to reporters and newspapers residing in Vietnam;

Applicants for temporary residence cards or authorized units shall submit their dossiers at one of three working offices of the Immigration Department – Ministry of Public Security:

Authority to issue temporary residence cards to foreigners?

1. Foreign diplomatic missions, consular offices or other authorized agencies in Vietnam shall send dossiers of application for temporary residence cards with symbol NG3 at competent agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
2. Agencies, organizations and individuals that invite or guarantee directly submit dossiers of application for temporary residence cards to foreigners in the case of entry with visas with symbols LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1, LD2, TT at the immigration management agency where the inviting or guaranteeing agency or organization is headquartered or where the inviting or guarantor resides;
3. Within 05 working days from the day on which the complete application is received, the immigration management agency or the competent agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall consider and grant the temporary residence card.

Term of temporary residence card of foreigners in Vietnam?

• The duration of the issued temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport;
• Temporary residence card with symbol DT1 is valid for no more than 10 years;
